2 Corinthians 6:17 - Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
A while back, we received some brown eggs from a friend. The eggs came in a large stackable carton. We still had a few white eggs left in the fridge. As the week progressed we used up the white eggs first. There was one white egg left in the carton so we just put it with the brown eggs and threw the other carton away.
I couldn't help but notice the immediate contrast of brown eggs and only one white egg sitting in the carton. It caught my attention so much that I took a photo which you see here. Always looking for object lessons to teach my kids, bus riders and children's church, the wheels began turning as I thought of an illustration.
The first thing I noticed, of course, was this brilliant white egg. I placed it in the center on purpose for this photo. You cannot help it ... your eyes immediately go to the white egg in this photo. God tells His children that they are to be separate and to come out from among them (the heathen nations). This could also be applied to being separate from the world and to come out from among them. We should not learn the ways of the heathen or the ways of the world. Eventually they will become a sin to us and a snare.
So, from this simple white egg I learned that Christians should stand out from the rest of the world. We are placed pretty much in the center of this world with lost souls all around us. We need to be so different than the rest of the world. Others should see a difference so that we can show them the One who made us different.
Secondly, I see that this egg is really not much different from the other eggs, only the color. Both taste the same, both cook the same. They are relatively the same size. The only difference between people living in this world are either saved or lost. We all pretty much do the same things, eat, sleep, go to work, go to school. We cannot tell who is saved and who is lost, only God can. People ought to know that we are saved by our actions and life.
So, first of all be sure you know Christ. Was there a time where you turned from your sin to Christ alone as your only hope of heaven. Then, because you are a new creature, be different as you try to please the Lord in all you do. When others see your change, then point them to Christ.
